The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis titled “Comparison of Pleomorphic Adenoma in Major and Minor Salivary Glands Using the Biomarkers p63 and Vimentin,” by student Youssef Dawood Salman. The objective of the thesis was to evaluate the differences between epithelial muscle cells in major and minor salivary glands.<\/span><\/p>\n

The study included histopathological examination of 30 samples\u201415 from major salivary glands and 15 from minor glands affected by pleomorphic adenoma. It was found that minor salivary glands did not exhibit the dense tissue characteristic of pleomorphic adenoma. Biomarker staining revealed differences in pigmentation, with minor salivary glands showing greater expression of Vimentin and p63, suggesting a higher likelihood of malignant adenoma in minor glands.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main recommendations indicate that there are histological differences between major and minor salivary glands regarding cell and tissue density, as well as differences in the density of the utilized biomarkers. The thesis was accepted by the discussion committee.<\/span><\/p>\n
