The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis titled: “Effectiveness of Gum Health Gel in Reducing Postoperative Complications Related to the Surgical Removal of Impacted Mandibular Third Molars (A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial)” by student Duha Ali Bardaan. The objective of the thesis was to evaluate the efficacy of Gum Health Gel in minimizing postoperative complications related to the surgical extraction of impacted third molars and its role in the early healing of soft tissue at the surgical site.<\/span><\/p>\n

The study involved a double-blind randomized trial conducted in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the College of Dentistry, University of Baghdad, and the Specialized Dental Center in Ramadi, Anbar. Sixty participants, who were in good health and required surgery to extract an impacted third molar, were randomly assigned to two groups. In the control group, extraction sites were filled with a foam gel sponge alone and sutured. In the study group, extraction sites were filled with a gel sponge mixed with one cubic centimeter of Gum Health Gel and sutured.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main recommendations from the study indicated that Gum Health Gel could be used as an effective means to significantly reduce postoperative pain, jaw muscle spasm, and swelling, while promoting early healing of soft tissues compared to the control group after surgical removal of impacted lower wisdom teeth. The thesis was accepted by the discussion committee.<\/span><\/p>\n
