The General Histology and Biology Laboratory was established in the 1960s in the old building of the College of Dentistry. The current laboratory was established in the 1990s during the founding of the Basic Sciences Department in 1991. The General Histology and Biology Laboratory is considered one of the fundamental laboratories for first and second-year students. The laboratory is located on the second floor of the Basic Sciences Department building. The laboratory’s vision is to advance knowledge in practical fields and to build a distinguished scientific foundation for our dear students in understanding general histology and biology, and the importance of its relationship to other basic sciences, in order to qualify students to serve society and encourage them to develop their abilities and capabilities. First-year students are taught in the laboratory how to use the light microscope to examine educational glass slides and then identify the different types of body tissues and cells. The curriculum also covers the study of microscopic organisms and parasites, including their types, life cycles, the diseases they cause, and methods of prevention. The Biology Laboratory includes four specialized and qualified professors with doctoral and master’s degrees, as well as two qualified technical staff members (a biology assistant and a veterinarian) with bachelor’s degrees. As for second-year students, the curriculum includes the study of the different organs of the human body and systems such as the nervous, respiratory, and digestive systems, as well as the tissues and cells that make up these organs. The theoretical and practical aspects of the subject are integrated to maximize student learning. The general histology laboratory is staffed by five qualified and experienced specialists holding doctoral and master’s degrees, as well as a qualified technical assistant with a biology background.<\/span><\/p>\n
