{"id":6257,"date":"2026-06-01T18:33:41","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T18:33:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.codental.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=6257"},"modified":"2026-06-01T18:34:47","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T18:34:47","slug":"masters-thesis-on-biological-management-of-deep-dentin-caries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.codental.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=6257","title":{"rendered":"Master\u2019s Thesis on Biological Management of Deep Dentin Caries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad discussed a Master\u2019s thesis entitled <strong>\u201cAdopting a Biological Approach for the Treatment of Deep Dentin Caries Lesions Using Dentin Matrix Protein-1 (DMP-1): An In Vitro Comparative Study\u201d<\/strong> submitted by the student <strong>Ahmed Faleh Mahdi<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The thesis aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effect of <strong>Dentin Matrix Protein-1 (DMP-1)<\/strong> in the management of <strong>caries-affected dentin (CAD)<\/strong> lesions and to compare its efficacy with <strong>Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA)<\/strong> and <strong>Sylc\u00ae bioactive glass<\/strong>. The investigation included assessments of the chemical, mechanical, and morphological properties of treated dentin lesions using <strong>micro-Raman spectroscopy<\/strong>, <strong>Vickers microhardness testing<\/strong>, and <strong>scanning electron microscopy (SEM)<\/strong> before and after treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The study involved the preparation of thirty carious dentin discs, which were examined visually and using a <strong>Diagnodent Pen<\/strong>, yielding readings ranging from 0 to 20. The specimens were then allocated into three treatment groups: <strong>DMP-1<\/strong>, <strong>MTA<\/strong>, and <strong>Sylc bioactive glass (BAG)<\/strong> applied through <strong>AquaCare air-abrasion technology<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Following treatment, <strong>Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)<\/strong> and <strong>contact angle measurements<\/strong> were performed for DMP-1. In addition, <strong>micro-Raman spectroscopic analysis<\/strong> was conducted to evaluate the mineral and organic content of the treated dentin, while tissue hardness was assessed using a <strong>Vickers microhardness tester<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The study concluded that <strong>Dentin Matrix Protein-1 (DMP-1)<\/strong> represents an effective biological alternative capable of enhancing both the mineral and organic phases of demineralized dentin surfaces. Furthermore, both <strong>MTA<\/strong> and <strong>Sylc\/BAG air-abrasion treatment<\/strong> were found to be effective approaches for the management of deep dentin caries lesions.
