Under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Mohammed Al-Hashemi, the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a continuing education course entitled The Impact of Trace Elements on Human Nutrition and Health, in the presence of a number of faculty members in the college.
The course aimed to acquaint the participants with the most important trace elements and their impact and importance on human health, and to introduce the most important elements necessary for human health and the symptoms resulting from their deficiency, as well as the most important diseases that affect humans due to a deficiency in one or more of these elements, and a detailed explanation of the food resources that contain the most important items.
The course dealt with a full explanation of the benefits of the elements and their importance to human health, as well as the most important harms and diseases that can affect humans as a result of wrong exposure to sunlight.
The course included four different themes:
1- Introducing the rare elements and their importance, and identifying the importance of the copper element.
2- Identifying the effect of increasing and decreasing the most important trace elements on human health.
3- The effect of iodine on human health.
4- The effect of the deficiency of trace elements on the health of new born and children, and the importance of zinc.
The course recommended the need to adhere to healthy nutrition, which contains the most important trace elements that are of great importance to human health, and to identify the most important diseases and symptoms resulting from a decrease in the levels of trace elements in the human body.
