The research paper, titled ‘Accuracy and Reliability of Automatic Tooth Segmentation Using Artificial Intelligence,’ was authored by Professor Dr. Dhiaa Hussein Abd Awn and Ph.D. student Ammar Shaker Al-Obaidi from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad, Orthodontics Department. It was published in the Scientific World Journal in Egypt. This study is considered the first globally to establish the routine use of artificial intelligence software as a cost-effective alternative to the global product.
The study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of the Segmented Teeth Model (STM) produced by the artificial intelligence program (CephX®) and compare it with the results of the Insignia system. The study also included clinical applications of artificial intelligence in orthodontic treatment, conducted on a group of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Modern techniques such as intraoral and dental 3D scanning were employed.
The results showed no statistically or clinically significant difference between the artificial intelligence programs used in the study and the gold standard (global product). The study recommended the use of these programs as a validated alternative.
