Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Muhammad, the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a seminar entitled “Food Additives and Food Labeling” delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Samia Ibrahim Hussein. In the presence of a number of faculty members at the college.
The seminar aimed to clarify the most important different additives to food materials and their classification and types, whether direct or indirect.
The seminar also included many axes, including international numbering according to the Codex Alimentarius Commission and symbols of additives, whether to improve quality or taste or for long-term preservation against spoilage or poor storage.
The seminar recommended the necessity of reading the symbols appearing on the food package and understanding their meaning in terms of the type of additive, the permissible concentration, and its effect on public health.
