Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Al-Hashemi, and within the activities of the Earth Day, a symposium was held in the Oral Diagnostics Branch, which included giving lectures on pollution, where Assistant Professor Areej Ahmed Najm gave a lecture on radioactive contamination on Tuesday 21/4/2022, in which she explained that pollution Environmental is the addition of any substance, whether solid, liquid or gaseous, to any aspect of the environment, such as water or air. Adding various forms of energy to the environment is called environmental pollution, such as outgoing radiation, heat or sound, and the environment cannot get rid of these pollutants quickly. There are many types of environmental pollution, the most famous and most influential are air pollution, water pollution and soil pollution. With the spread of modern technology, new types of pollution have emerged, such as radioactive pollution, noise pollution and plastic pollution. All manifestations of environmental pollution have many damages to human health and well-being. Radioactive pollution destroys the environment and all its elements, as it destroys water, air and agricultural soil. By destroying the environment, living organisms are also destroyed. Nuclear reactors and nuclear explosions produce harmful things called radionuclides. Radionuclides pollute the human environment.
The symposium was attended by a number of professors and valuable scientific discussions took place.
