The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis titled “Effectiveness of Gelatamp in Controlling Post-Extraction Complications of Lower Molars” by student Fatima Kazem Jawad. The objective of the thesis was to evaluate and compare soft tissue healing and pain following simple extraction of lower teeth.

The study included a sample of 80 Iraqi patients over the age of 18 (41 males and 39 females) who were selected for tooth extractions. All patients underwent extraction of lower teeth and were divided into two groups: Group A (study group) received Gelatamp to enhance the extraction site, followed by nylon sutures in an eight-pattern. Group B (control group) had the extraction site sutured with nylon without Gelatamp (placebo group). The results indicated a significant difference favoring the study group regarding pain and soft tissue healing.

The main recommendations from the study suggest that Gelatamp is beneficial for alleviating postoperative pain and promoting soft tissue healing in lower molar extractions. The thesis was accepted by the discussion committee.
