The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled “Presenting and Discussing Scientific Papers,” presented by Professor Dr. Anas Falah, and attended by a number of faculty members and staff.
The workshop aimed to introduce postgraduate students to the methodology of critical thinking in analyzing research papers, starting from selecting the type of scientific journal, authors, and title, and continuing through all the details and components of the research article.
The workshop also included several key topics, most notably: the mechanism for presenting a seminar to discuss scientific papers, as this is one of the course requirements for the second semester, in addition to explaining research methodology in terms of study design (experimental, survey, systematic review, etc.), the method of selecting the sample, and the tools used, with an emphasis on highlighting the critical procedures in the research.
The workshop addressed the methodology of systematic critique as the cornerstone of research analysis, along with presenting findings and explaining their statistical significance, and providing illustrative practical examples.
The workshop recommended the necessity of focusing on systematic critique and transforming research presentations from mere readings into in-depth analytical sessions based on critical thinking and purposeful scientific discussion of the research papers.
