Sponsored and shared by The President of The University of Baghdad Professor Dr. Emad Husseini and under the supervision of The Dean of the College of Dentistry Assistant Professor Dr. Nada Jafar Al-Sheikh Radhi, an electronic workshop was held on Friday, 3-7-2020 with the title (Coronavirus: Challenges and Solutions) using the Zoom platform.

The workshop dealt with specialized scientific discussions and with the participation of Professors from Baghdad University and the British University (King’s College London University).

And among the themes of the workshop was the first lecture of the honorable guest, Dr. Meraz Rahman (King’s College London University) titled

(Finding new treatments for Covid-19 by reusing available drugs)

Dr. Rahman also reviewed, in his lecture, the mechanisms used by the virus to attack the human body as well as the way it reproduces. And depending on the activity of the virus, Dr. Rahman introduced many groups of drugs that may have a role in stopping the activity of the virus within the human body; clinical studies will soon start to study the side effects and toxicity of these medications to avoid any unexpected complications when introduced in the pharmaceutical market.

As for the second lecture, it was presented by Prof. Dr. Hussein Faisal Al-Huwaizi (a teaching professor in College of Dentistry, University of Baghdad), with the title (Facing the challenges of treating and restoring teeth in light of the Coronavirus pandemic).

His lecture reviewed the preventive methods that must be followed by the dentist and the patient. He tried to divide the cases into simple, medium, and severe, and mentioned the supposed protocol in treating these cases to avoid the spread of Coronavirus.

The third lecture was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Ismail Al-Bustani (Assistant Professor at the College of Dentistry, University of Baghdad) under the title (Covid-19 for orthodontists). In which he dealt with the nature and types of orthodontics, and the problems that an orthodontic patient may suffer from it (sometimes), and how to treat it in light of a Coronavirus

Dr. Ali Al-Bustani discussed the role of Tele-Orthodontics in treating mild cases and educating the patient to follow-up to avoid any complications during the treatment period, Tele-Orthodontics can have some negative repercussions on a relationship between the dentist and his patients. He also provided advice to classifying patients and their conditions to select the patient who needs to visit the clinic and be treated, and this in turn works to limit the spread of a Coronavirus until the end of this crisis.

The lectures were followed by an enjoyable and valuable scientific discussion between the attendees and the lecturers where all the questions that were asked were answered by the lecturing professors.
