The Microbiology Laboratory was established with the founding of the Basic Sciences Department in 1991. It is considered one of the fundamental laboratories of the Basic Sciences Department, which is part of the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad.
The work of the Microbiology Laboratory focuses on teaching third-year students correct and modern sterilization methods, how to handle microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi, and how to diagnose them using traditional, immunological, and modern methods. The theoretical and practical aspects of the subject matter are coordinated to maximize student learning. Students are trained on how to handle microorganisms and their relationship to oral health, oral diseases, and dental caries. The laboratory also explores, disseminates, and applies knowledge and science in the field of oral health and its relationship to microorganisms, and aims to reduce the transmission of infections. The Microbiology Laboratory includes seven qualified and experienced specialists holding doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees.
