Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Muhammad, the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled “Preventing Extremist Ideas,” delivered by Lecturer Wassan Lafta Abdullah, with the attendance of a number of faculty members and students.
The workshop aimed to identify extremist ideas, their impact on individuals and society, and how to prevent them in order to create a stable society characterized by security, safety, and stability.
The workshop also covered several topics, including:
1. What are extremist ideas?
2. The dangers and causes of extremist ideas.
3. The harmful effects of various extremist ideas on individuals and society.
4. How to prevent such extremist ideas.
The workshop recommended that socialization plays a significant role in combating extremism, beginning in childhood. The family is the primary school of education and the foundation upon which society’s members are represented. This is achieved through education and established curricula, which must contribute to combating extremism. Educational institutions also play a role in developing students’ critical and analytical abilities to counter extremist ideas. Education can protect students from extremism by shaping their personalities and thinking in a manner consistent with social and civic values.
