Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Mohammed,
the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad, through the University Psychological Counseling Unit, organized a seminar entitled “Drugs: A Menace That Destroys Society.” The seminar was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Hala Mohammed Jasim and attended by a number of college students.
The seminar aimed to enhance awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and to highlight its health, psychological, and social consequences, in addition to guiding preventive and protective measures and activating the role of institutions in confronting this serious phenomenon.
The seminar included several key topics, most notably:
1. Health impact: Explaining the effects of drugs on body systems and the dangers of addiction.
2. Psychological impact: Discussing the psychological and behavioral disorders resulting from drug abuse.
3. Social impact: Clarifying the effects of drugs on the family and society and their role in increasing crime rates.
4. Awareness and prevention: The role of media institutions in spreading awareness.
5. Legal aspect: Introducing legal penalties and the efforts of security agencies to limit this phenomenon.
The seminar recommended the necessity of:
1. Intensifying awareness campaigns among students and youth.
2. Supporting addiction treatment programs and the reintegration of recovering individuals.
3. Enhancing cooperation among health, educational, and security institutions.
4. Strengthening legal measures to reduce the spread of drugs.
5. Producing continuous awareness-oriented media content.
