Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul-Razzaq Mohammed
The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a continuing education course entitled “Sports Injuries: Causes, Treatment, and Rehabilitation Methods,” with the participation of several faculty members.
The course aimed to introduce sports injuries, explain how they occur during exercise and physical activities, and outline their types and health effects, thereby contributing to raising awareness of prevention and treatment among participants.
The course covered several topics, including defining a sports injury as subjecting the body or one of its parts to a force exceeding the tissues’ capacity to withstand it, and reviewing the different types of sports injuries. It also highlighted the impact of physical forces, such as tension, compression, shearing, and rotation, on vital tissues during athletic activity and their role in causing injuries. The course also covered methods for treating sports injuries, addressing physiotherapy as an effective way to alleviate pain and revitalize muscles. This included the use of ultrasound and low-energy lasers to aid tissue healing and reduce pain. The course also addressed biological therapies, which include plasma and stem cell injections to regenerate tissue damaged by sports injuries, particularly in cases of knee injuries, shoulder dislocations, and muscle spasms.
The course recommended consulting specialized rehabilitation centers throughout the country, which employ highly qualified medical and technical staff, to ensure accurate diagnosis and proper treatment for various types of sports injuries, thus accelerating recovery and a safe return to physical activity.
