Under the patronage of the esteemed Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghd Abdulrazzaq Mohammed,
the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad — through the Media and Government Communication Division — organized a symposium entitled “The Culture of Citizenship and Peaceful Coexistence in the University Environment.” The lecture was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Maha Faisal Ahmed and Assistant Lecturer Bahauddin Salah Fadel, with the attendance of several faculty members, staff, and postgraduate students.
The symposium aimed to promote the culture of citizenship and peaceful coexistence within the university environment by fostering professional relationships based on mutual respect, developing a balanced work atmosphere that improves institutional performance, and strengthening team spirit and a sense of belonging to the university.
The symposium addressed several key themes, including:
- Concept of citizenship in the university environment and work ethics — highlighting the meaning of citizenship within the university as a scientific and professional setting that requires high levels of commitment and responsibility.
- Foundations of peaceful coexistence and building professional relationships — emphasizing the importance of coexistence within the university, which brings together diverse specializations, experiences, and responsibilities.
- Challenges facing citizenship and peaceful coexistence in the university.
The symposium recommended the following:
- Supporting training and development programs that bring together faculty and staff to enhance communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
- Organizing regular joint activities within the college or university to strengthen cooperation and institutional belonging.
- Launching university initiatives that encourage positive dialogue and address tensions in the workplace.
- Activating internal communication channels between departments and units to ensure proper and organized information flow.
- Adopting clear institutional policies that support professional conduct, respect diversity, and reject discrimination.
