Under the patronage of the esteemed Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghd Abdulrazzaq Mohammed,
the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad — through the Media and Government Communication Division and in cooperation with the Committee for Coexistence and Community Peace — organized a symposium entitled “Promoting Citizenship and Peaceful Coexistence in the Academic Work Environment.” The lecture was delivered by Ms. Aseel Adel Jabr, with the attendance of several faculty members and staff.
The symposium aimed to instill values of conscious citizenship and strengthen the culture of peaceful coexistence within academic work, ensuring the creation of a cohesive university community built on respect for diversity and acceptance of others. It also sought to elevate professional conduct, thereby enhancing performance quality and harmony within the educational system.
The symposium addressed several key themes, including:
- Citizenship and its role in building a balanced academic environment — defining citizenship as a framework that encompasses rights and responsibilities, and its role in reinforcing institutional belonging.
- Peaceful coexistence and its impact on professional relationships — emphasizing the importance of constructive dialogue in resolving conflicts, and adopting a culture of tolerance and positive communication among members of the university community.
- Institutional behavior and its role in supporting functional integration — highlighting the role of administrative leadership in spreading a culture of cooperation, encouraging initiative, and fostering a safe and motivating work environment that enhances institutional performance.
The symposium recommended the following:
- Adopting clear policies for constructive dialogue and conflict resolution based on mutual respect.
- Raising awareness of proper institutional behavior through workshops and training programs that enhance communication and teamwork skills.
- Encouraging academic initiatives that promote tolerance, diversity, and institutional belonging.
- Developing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure the application of citizenship and peaceful coexistence principles across all work units.
