Under the supervision of the respected Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Al Hashemi
The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium entitled (Dopamine – the way to happiness) presented by (assisstant lecturer Alaa Wael Ezzat) and in the presence of a number of faculty members.
The symposium aimed at the need to eat foods rich in dopamine and amino acids such as tyrosine and phenylalanine, which have a direct relationship to the manufacture of dopamine and to enhance its level in the brain as it strengthens memory and enhances mental health, while taking care to take a sufficient amount of rest in addition to getting about eight hours of sleep every night with exercise, hiking or walking outdoors, and exposure to sunlight.
The symposium included topics that dealt with:
A definition of dopamine, its chemical composition, the places where dopamine is made in the body, its mechanism of action, its function as a neurotransmitter, as well as its function as a hormone, and the most important foods rich in dopamine.
And the relationship of dopamine to stimulating the reward system in the brain through the practice of activities that stimulate the production of dopamine and thus give a feeling of happiness, contentment and joy, as well as the relationship of the level of dopamine secretion with obesity and the amount of food that is eaten.
And the need to maintain the level of dopamine because the rise or fall leads to serious diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and schizophrenia as well as ADHD and affects mood, sleep, study and concentration.
The relationship of dopamine with narcotic drugs and its direct relationship with addiction was also discussed.
The symposium included a presentation of illustrative photos and extensive specialized scientific discussions on this subject, where all questions raised by the attendees were answered.
