The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a continuing education course entitled (Advances in Periodontal Treatment). It was delivered by the assistant professor. Firas Bashir Al-Taweel and Lecturer. Rasha Salah Abboud and the assistant lecturer Muhammad Saeed, in the presence of several faculty members and post-graduate students at the college.
The course aimed to present new methods in treating gum diseases and benefit from all developments, such as the use of 3D printers and learning about different types of suturing methods approved for closing periodontal surgeries.
The course also included several topics, including:
1. Host modulators: a possible adjunctive to non-surgical periodontal therapy.
2. 3D printed scaffolds for periodontal regeneration.
3. Suturing in oral surgery.
The course recommended the possibility of using some treatments that affect the body’s response to periodontal disease. And benefit from it in non-surgical periodontal treatments. Relying on some modern methods using 3D scaffolds with the help of 3D printers to regenerate the periodontal tissues, as well as using a specific wound suturing method for each type of surgery to ensure the best result and not rely on only one method.
