Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Muhammad, the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium entitled “Cyberbullying,” delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Zainab Ali Salman, with the attendance of several faculty members and college staff.
The scientific symposium aimed to raise awareness among participants about the concept of cyberbullying, its types, its negative aspects, and its negative effects on individuals and societies, especially in light of the widespread use of social media.
The scientific symposium also included several topics, including:
• Definition of cyberbullying, its various types and methods.
• Psychological and social effects on victims of bullying.
• The risks of unsafe use of social media.
• Methods of protection and prevention from cyberbullying, and the educational role of the family and educational institutions.
• The negative repercussions of cyberbullying on societal cohesion and stability.
The symposium recommended the following:
1. Incorporating the topic of cyberbullying into student awareness-raising activities.
2. Encouraging research and studies that address the psychological and social aspects of this phenomenon.
3. Holding training workshops on the safe use of social media.
4. Enhancing cooperation between educational and media institutions to combat bullying and spread a culture of tolerance and respect.
5. Encouraging deterrent laws and procedures to curb cyberbullying and protect its victims.
