Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Muhammad, the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium entitled “The Negative Effects of Global Warming.” The symposium was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Shaima Sabti Mutlaq, and attended by a number of faculty members from the college.
The symposium aimed to shed light on how global warming occurs, highlight its main causes, and its impact on the environment and climate.
The symposium also covered several topics, most notably: the human and natural causes of global warming, the relationship between global warming and climate change, and a review of possible solutions to mitigate this phenomenon, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing the use of polluting transportation, increasing vegetation cover, removing carbon from the atmosphere, and using technologies such as aerosol spraying or blocking sunlight with a giant space mirror.

The symposium recommended the need to preserve a healthy environment and spread environmental and health awareness to mitigate the human-caused causes of global warming, given its numerous negative impacts. These include rising temperatures, which, in turn, make polar regions and glaciers warmer, increased rainfall, storms, and hurricanes due to increased atmospheric humidity, as well as increased rates of desertification, drought, and forest fires.
