Brief Overview of the Oral and Embryonic Tissues Laboratory
Laboratory Objectives: To qualify dental students to understand the types of oral and dental tissues and embryology, oral biology, and the methods of sectioning oral and dental tissues in the laboratory. This includes learning how to use the light microscope and tissue sectioning equipment, and understanding the types of stains used to stain different oral tissues. It also aims to qualify students to understand the development of the head, neck, and other body tissues during the embryonic stage, and to understand the development of the teeth, mouth, uvula, tongue, and the tissues located in and around the mouth. Furthermore, it aims to familiarize students with the proteins related to bone and tooth development found in the salivary glands and their impact on growth.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Enabling students to use the light microscope and section different oral and dental tissues and view them under the microscope.
2. Enabling students to understand the genetic development of the head, neck, and other body tissues through the use of videos and slide presentations.
3. Enabling students to identify the types of normal oral and dental tissues by providing sufficient information about the types of microscopes used to study different oral tissues and understanding the types of tissue layers.
