The General Pathology and Oral Pathology Laboratory is a medical scientific laboratory located on the seventh floor of the College of Dentistry building at the University of Baghdad. It occupies an area of 86.4 square meters and is affiliated with the Oral Diagnosis Department. It was established on May 29, 1977, the same date the department was founded, and is equipped with specialized equipment to serve as a teaching laboratory for third and fourth-year students.
The laboratory provides demonstrations of all general pathology materials for third-year students and oral pathology materials for fourth-year students, including explanations of tissue sections selected according to scientific criteria and the theoretical curriculum for this subject.
A light microscope and a display screen are used for simultaneous demonstration and explanation, allowing all students in the laboratory to view the entire slide and have it examined by the supervising instructor during their designated time.
The laboratory is committed to providing the modern resources stipulated by the University of Baghdad, College of Dentistry, and these resources are implemented and familiar to all laboratory staff. The laboratory focuses on providing scientific material that facilitates diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases, in addition to developing the scientific knowledge of third and fourth-year students regarding general pathology and oral pathology. This aims to qualify dentists capable of meeting the comprehensive health needs of individuals and the community, which in turn leads to building a healthy, disease-free society. It also aims to qualify dentists capable of identifying various types of oral and facial diseases, understanding the techniques for sectioning oral tumors, jawbone, and salivary glands in the laboratory, and knowing how to use the light microscope and tissue sectioning equipment, as well as the types of stains used to stain different oral tissues.
