Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Mohammed, the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad, through the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, organized a symposium as part of Anti-Drug Week activities entitled “Drugs: A Plague Ravaging Society.”

The lecture was delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Fadel Shaker Al-Saadi, Director of the Center for Educational and Psychological Research at the Presidency of the University of Baghdad, with the attendance of the Dean of the College, the assistant deans, heads of departments, the guidance unit director, liaison members, as well as faculty members and students.

The symposium aimed to raise awareness among youth about the dangers of drugs, strengthen their role in combating drug abuse, and extend awareness to other segments of society.

The symposium covered several topics, including:

  • An introductory overview of drugs and their types.
  • Causes of drug abuse.
  • Real-life examples for awareness.
  • Characteristics of addicts and how to identify them.
  • Methods of eliminating drug abuse.
  • Mechanisms for protecting individuals and society.

Key recommendations of the symposium included:

  • The necessity of holding more symposiums to increase awareness, as youth are the most active segment of society.

As part of the institution’s commitment to supporting and appreciating distinguished efforts, Assist. Prof. Dr. Fadel Shaker Al-Saadi was honored in recognition of his valuable contributions to awareness efforts.
