Under the patronage of the esteemed Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Mohammed, the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad – Government Media and Communications Division organized a scientific seminar entitled “Media Awareness in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Between Truth and Rumour”. The seminar was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Maha Faisal Ahmed and Professor Dr. Sahar Hashem Abdul Karim, with the attendance of several faculty members and staff.

The seminar aimed to raise the level of media awareness in light of the growing influence of artificial intelligence in producing and promoting digital content, by highlighting the challenges of distinguishing truth from rumour.

Key topics discussed included:

  • Applications of artificial intelligence.
  • Digital rumours and mechanisms of their spread.
  • Risks of digital rumours on society.
  • AI-supported media misinformation and its role in developing deceptive tools.
  • The dangers of AI-driven misinformation.
  • Media tools for digital awareness.

The seminar concluded with recommendations stressing the importance of strengthening digital literacy in society through awareness programs that enhance skills in verifying information and distinguishing facts from rumours. It also recommended integrating artificial intelligence concepts into educational curricula to prepare generations capable of understanding and critically engaging with modern technologies. Furthermore, the seminar encouraged supporting research efforts to develop advanced technical tools that detect fake content and effectively combat media misinformation.
