Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghd Abdul Razzaq Mohammed, the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific seminar entitled “The Role of Women in Achieving Development and a Sustainable Future.” The seminar was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Ghada Ibrahim Taha and attended by a number of the College’s staff and faculty members.

The seminar aimed to highlight the active role of women in achieving sustainable development and striving for a clean, carbon-free environment, especially in the present era. It emphasized the importance of women working alongside men to find solutions to climate change challenges and to support efforts toward a sustainable future.

The seminar included several key themes, addressing women’s role as partners in development, their role in socialization, the contribution of rural women in managing and rationalizing the use of natural resources to preserve the environment, and ways to reduce emissions and pollution.

The seminar concluded with recommendations affirming that recognizing women as the cornerstone of society is not merely symbolic, but an undeniable reality. If women’s behaviors and practices are positively developed or changed, this will reflect on family behavior and, consequently, on society as a whole. Women have significant influence over children and men and can contribute to transforming consumer culture within the family. Environmental initiatives are not limited to reducing emissions; they also generate substantial economic returns. These returns can be directed toward community development and building sustainable cities, thereby enhancing economic and social growth in those countries.
