Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghd Abdul Razzaq Mohammed, the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a training course entitled “Risks and Complications Associated with Orthodontic Treatment.” The course was attended by a group of fourth-year students.
The course aimed to clarify the side effects and potential risks associated with the use of various orthodontic appliances.
The training covered several key topics, including the aesthetic importance of orthodontic appliances in providing patients with a beautiful smile and correcting problems of crowding and misalignment. However, it also addressed the side effects and risks that may result from the use of orthodontic appliances of all types. The course discussed potential complications arising from both fixed and removable appliances, such as pain, inflammation of the gums and bone, tooth decay, sensitivity, root resorption, as well as gum and jaw inflammation, and explained how these effects can be prevented.
The course recommended that such training programs be conducted regularly each academic year to ensure continuous and sustained benefit for students and participants from the educational content provided.
