Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul-Razzaq Mohammed, and as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a seminar entitled: “Epidemiology of Periodontal Diseases.” The seminar was presented by Master’s student Rana Hamid Jabr and attended by several faculty members and postgraduate students.
The seminar aimed to provide an understanding of the fundamentals of epidemiology and the relationship between periodontal disease and general health.
The seminar covered several topics, including: a comprehensive introduction to epidemiology and its application to periodontal and other periodontal diseases; an analysis of the global prevalence of these diseases and the impact of socioeconomic factors on their spread; and an examination of the relationship between periodontal disease and general health, focusing on challenges and preventive strategies. A discussion also addressed future research directions in this field.
The session recommended: the need to raise awareness of the importance of oral care and prevention of gum disease, and to support future research to better understand the mechanisms of the spread and development of gum disease, and to investigate its relationship to general diseases.
