The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific seminar entitled “The Use of Herbal and Natural Materials in Dentistry.” The seminar was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Hamed Ali, Head of the Department of Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry, and PhD student Mr. Sinan Abdul-Sattar, and was attended by a number of faculty and staff members.

The seminar aimed to highlight the remarkable properties and structures found in nature. Many plants and natural herbs possess important compositions with healing and medicinal properties comparable to manufactured chemical substances.

The seminar also included several sessions addressing the research activities of our college, particularly in the Department of Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry. Numerous scientific experiments have tested the effectiveness of certain herbal and natural materials in combating microbes, nourishing the hard tissues of teeth, treating the dental pulp, and their use in root canal fillings.

The symposium recommended: the necessity of opening up the research field to graduate students interested in this type of material, given its latent potential and hidden aspects that may stimulate scientific research in our college
