Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Ali Ismail Ibrahim.

The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad, through its University Psychological Counseling Unit and in cooperation with the Follow-up Division, organized an awareness and educational seminar entitled “Combating the Scourge of Drugs” as part of its strategies to combat corruption. Lectures were delivered by several officers from the National Security Service, and the seminar was attended by the Dean, faculty members, staff, and students of the college.

The seminar covered several topics, including the definition of drugs, their types, the reasons for drug use, and the resulting physical, psychological, and social effects. A detailed explanation was also given of Law No. (50) of 2017, issued by the Iraqi Parliament, which regulates the mechanisms for holding accountable and punishing traffickers, distributors, promoters, transporters, and users of these poisons. The legal procedures for treating drug users through health centers located throughout the governorates of Iraq were also outlined. The symposium recommended the continuous strengthening of awareness and educational programs within universities, given their vital role in curbing the spread of drug abuse. It also emphasized the importance of activating university psychological counseling units for the early detection of at-risk individuals. The symposium stressed the need to enhance cooperation and coordination between universities and security and health institutions to contribute to building a comprehensive system for prevention and treatment. It called for disseminating legal awareness among students and staff to familiarize them with the provisions of applicable laws and the penalties for drug use and trafficking, as well as highlighting the legal and humanitarian mechanisms available for treating drug users.
