The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Mahdi Abdul-Hadi and Lecturer Hala Mohammed Jassim, and was attended by a number of postgraduate students and faculty members.

The workshop aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge and clinical skills regarding the relationship between temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) and orthodontic treatments, as well as how to accurately diagnose the condition and develop a safe treatment plan that reduces symptoms and maintains the health of the joint and muscles.

The workshop covered several topics, including an introduction to temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD), their most prominent clinical symptoms, and their functional implications. It also reviewed accurate clinical diagnostic methods and the supporting tests used in evaluating TMD cases. The workshop addressed the relationship between temporomandibular joint (TMD) disorders and malocclusion, highlighting the impact of orthodontic treatments on the health of the joint and surrounding muscles. It also discussed the importance of developing a safe treatment plan for TMD patients, emphasizing conservative treatment and the role of splint therapy appliances in pain relief and improving joint function.

The workshop recommended a thorough examination of the TMJ before initiating any orthodontic treatment, stressing the importance of managing acute pain and controlling inflammatory symptoms before proceeding with orthodontics. It also emphasized the importance of continuous patient follow-up throughout the orthodontic treatment period.
