Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Ali Ismail Ibrahim
The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad, through its Media and Government Communication Department, organized a workshop entitled “Reducing Illegal Immigration: Repercussions and Future Solutions.” The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Maha Faisal Ahmed and Lecturer Bahaa Al-Din Salah Fadhil, and was attended by a number of students from the college.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the phenomenon of illegal immigration by analyzing its root causes and its social, economic, and security repercussions. It also included a field survey to gather participants’ opinions on the challenges associated with this phenomenon, thereby contributing to supporting decision-makers.
The workshop covered several key topics, most notably defining the concept of irregular migration and its various dimensions, explaining its economic, social, and security causes and motivations, and highlighting its impact on individuals and societies, particularly on stability and development. It also discussed the legal and security challenges associated with this phenomenon, reviewed proposed solutions to address it, and explored ways to raise community awareness and promote legal and safe pathways to reduce irregular migration. The workshop recommended enhancing education and employment opportunities in countries of origin to reduce the incentives for migration, improving living conditions by supporting economic and social development initiatives, strengthening border controls, and enhancing security cooperation to curb irregular migration. It also recommended intensifying awareness campaigns about the dangers of irregular migration and encouraging the search for legal and safe alternatives.
