Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Ali Ismail Ibrahim.
The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a training course entitled “Fabrication of Retaintive Components for Removable Orthodontic Appliances,” attended by a number of the college’s students.
The training course aimed to equip participants with the practical skills to fabricate retaintive components for removable orthodontic appliances according to sound scientific principles.
The course covered several topics, most notably the theoretical and practical principles of fabricating retaintive components for removable orthodontic appliances. It also addressed the limitations of clear aligners in controlling complex tooth movements such as rotation and vertical movements, highlighting their effectiveness in skeletal cases and gap closure. Furthermore, the course discussed the role of patient adherence and attachments in treatment success, and the limitations of digital treatment planning accuracy. Finally, it compared the clinical outcomes of clear aligners with traditional orthodontics and identified cases that warrant switching to clear aligners.
The training course recommended the necessity of:
1- Emphasizing continuous practical training to enhance clinical performance. 2. Adherence to standard designs and specifications in the manufacturing of mobile devices.
3. Integration of practical aspects with theoretical knowledge in training programs.
