Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Ali Ismail Ibrahim,
the College of Dentistry at University of Baghdad – Legal Affairs Division organized a seminar entitled “Financial Corruption,” delivered by Assistant Lecturer Imad Bandar Atwan, with the attendance of a number of the college’s staff members.
The seminar aimed to shed light on the phenomenon of financial corruption as one of the most significant challenges facing societies, explaining its causes and its negative impacts on the economy and development. It also sought to promote awareness of the importance of integrity and transparency, and to propose effective mechanisms to limit and combat this phenomenon.
The seminar included several key topics, most notably:
1. The concept of financial corruption, its types, and various forms, along with the causes behind its spread.
2. The economic, social, and political impacts of financial corruption.
3. The role of regulatory and legal institutions in combating corruption.
4. The importance of transparency and integrity in strengthening trust in institutions.
5. The role of media and society in reducing financial corruption.
The seminar recommended the following:
1. Strengthening the role of oversight bodies and activating laws related to combating corruption.
2. Promoting a culture of integrity and transparency in both public and private institutions.
3. Enhancing the role of media in exposing corruption cases and raising awareness of its risks.
4. Encouraging the reporting of corruption cases and providing protection for whistleblowers.
5. Developing administrative and financial systems to reduce opportunities for corruption.
