Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul-Razzaq Mohammed
The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad, through its Committee for Coexistence and Community Peace, organized a scientific seminar entitled “The Internet: Between Advantages and Disadvantages.” The seminar was presented by Dr. Zainab Ali Salman and attended by a number of faculty members and staff.
The seminar aimed to introduce the concept of the internet and its impact on the lives of individuals and societies, highlighting the positive aspects of its proper use and the negative consequences of its misuse. It also emphasized the internet’s role in shaping public awareness and social and cultural communication in the digital age.
The seminar included several key themes, most notably:
1- An Introduction to the Internet: This theme addressed the origins and development of the internet and its role in facilitating communication and information transfer worldwide.
2- The advantages of using the internet and highlighting its most important benefits in education, communication, skills development, knowledge exchange, and its role in facilitating daily life.
3- The disadvantages and harms of the internet when misused. The risks resulting from excessive or unconscious use were pointed out, such as internet addiction, weakened social interaction, the spread of rumors, and the theft of personal data.
4- The impact of the internet on society and the reflection of its use on societal values and behaviors, and its role in building or dismantling social relationships, depending on how it is used.
